Pakistan in West Indies ODI Series - 2nd ODI

West Indies v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 7 wickets (with 12 balls remaining)

Hi there and welcome to the second ODI between West Indies and Pakistan. West Indies hiccuped and dawdled their way to a below-par total in the first game and Pakistan sauntered home.

Shahid Afridi has won the toss and chose to bowl. Even in the last game, at the post-match ceremony, Afridi said he was actually happy that Sammy chose to bat!

Pakistan have gone in with an unchanged side while West Indies have made one change: Anthony Martin, the leggie, replaces Andre Russell.

Kamran: "I hope today Afridi gives Hammad a chance to bowl rather than just having him in team for fielding..if that is the case than i think taufeeq should be in instead of hammad as he is a talented opening batsman and a good fielder as well"

Maleeha: "It is a good sign, Afridi is showing confidence in his batsmen, selecting to field first...:)"

"Darren Bravo is from Trinidad and Tobago and a member of the Queens Park Cricket Club known for it's turning pitches, so i was surprised to see him play the way he did on Sat, looking forward to a more fluent inns from Darren today. his inns might very well be the key for WI," says Reul. Yep, it was a pretty scratchy effort the other day. Was surprised as well.

Richard: "The WI selectors have got their knickers in a twist: you have a team from the sub-continent known for their spinning capabilities and the WI have no batsman in its squad capable of dominating spin bowling. Here's a question. Do the selectors have autonomy over selection, or does Ernest Hillaire and the rest of the WICB get involved? My heart pains for WI cricket!"

Hamza Khan: "This has to be the most pointless ODI series ever. Just after the ODI WC is ended, they decide to play 5 ODIs. What's the point? Why not play 3 Tests and 3 ODIs. There is no better place for the young cricketers to learn International cricket than Tests."

Shabbir Ahmed: "good decision to bowl first by afridi. pakistan needed to improve their impression of a failed side while chasing scores even a moderate total. "

Afridi: "There is some moisture on this pitch. we would like to get them out as soon as possible and then chase it. These spinners are doing a brilliant job in the last couple of months. My team combination in ODI is very good. We struggle a bit to adjust to T20. "

Sammy: "We have to bounce back. We will look to put up a better display than the first game. We have Anthony Martin, making his debut. Spinners were the one who got most assistance here. We are still in the rebuilding stage; the guys are young and we are rebuilding as I said. We have to pick ourselves very quickly."

0.1

Junaid Khan to Simmons, no run, mild appeal for lbw first ball. It was a full delivery on the legs and Simmons, like he did in the last game, missed out on an opportunity to flick/glance. The ball rolls off the pad

Two slips in -place

0.3

0.4

Junaid Khan to Simmons, no run, around the off stump line, on a length, defended to the off side

Robin: "It is just so painful to watch this WI opening pair batting. Where a team can open the bowling with a spinner and lock the game down from the outset. I`m off to the beach!!. And One more thing b4 I go soak myself, NO WONDER THE STANDS ARE EMPTY!!"

3.1

Mohammad Hafeez to Simmons, 1 run, pushes to short fine-leg for a single

3.4

4.3

Junaid Khan to Smith, no run, reaches forward to jab this full-length delivery to the leg side

4.4

Junaid Khan to Smith, 2 runs, short in length, around off, coming in with that angle, Smith shuffles across, raises his front leg in the air and swats the ball past square-leg

Reuel: "Darren Sammy is from ST Lucia and the stands are still empty. That alone should give you an indication as to how the people of the Caribbean feel about his Captaincy, and about him being in the team, period. Let's hope that they forget that he is Captain just for today and go out and support the team, they need it. " hmm..Don't think any one is turning up.

5.1

Mohammad Hafeez to Simmons, 1 run, floated from over the wicket this time, pushed close on the off side and they rush across for a good quick single

long-on in place

5.2

Mohammad Hafeez to Smith, no run, loud cry for lbw but there was an inside edge. It landed on the middle stump line and turned just about .. Smith jabs at it , and gets an inside edge, I think, on to his pad

5.3

Mohammad Hafeez to Smith, OUT, Given out lbw but the point of impact was just outside off stump. He went back, shuffled across, and again, like the last game, and even on the previous delivery, stabbed outside the line of the ball, trying to waft across the line. Clueless. The ball landed just outside off and skidded towards off. It would have hit off but the impact was outside off and he was playing a shot.

6.2

Junaid Khan to DM Bravo, no run, Another wild swing and a miss! fuller and outside off stump, Bravo goes for a big off drive, doesn't lean into the shot, and is beaten

6.3

Junaid Khan to DM Bravo, no run, this time he lets the ball go through to the keeper. Wonder whether it was because of the last two deliveries or because of the length- it was on a good length this time, not short or full.

6.4

Junaid Khan to DM Bravo, 1 run, stays back to guide this down to third man for his first run

6.5

Junaid Khan to Simmons, 3 runs, up and over mid-off. It was a back of length delivery angling away and he went for the punchy on-the-up shot over mid-off, who was well inside the 30-yard, trying to stop the single.

6.6

Junaid Khan to DM Bravo, FOUR, Ah! he has laced that. Full pitched outside off and a lot closer to him and he leaned across to caress it through wide mid-off region. Delicious! And he holds his pose!

8.2

Wahab Riaz to Simmons, FOUR, Forced away! he fetched the length delivery from around off stump line and dragged it powerfully to left of mid-on where the fielder dives to his left, gets some hand on it but can't prevent it.

8.3

Wahab Riaz to Simmons, no run, pushes this past the non striker

DM Bravo    6* (12b 1x4)      Mohammad Hafeez    4-0-14-1

Simmons is in pain Left knee. He edged the last delivery on to the knee I reckon. Nope it hit the pad flap there! Hmm... He is down on the ground and getting some treatment.

Russell: "I am not sure why none of the games are scheduled to be played at Queens Park Oval in Trinidad. They have such a beautiful oval and its almost always filled to capacity for ODI's. I know it's not the rainy season there now, so what's the problem?"

10.2

Wahab Riaz to Simmons, FOUR, Violence! Simmons rushed down the track, moves outside leg and slapped the length delivery through point.

10.3

Wahab Riaz to Simmons, no run, A short of length delivery on the middle stump line, Simmons shuffles across, is cramped for the room and slightly late on it as well as he tries to swat-pull. The ball moves past the waft and bounds off waist to the off side

DM Bravo c Misbah-ul-Haq b Saeed Ajmal 12 (27m 18b 2x4 0x6) SR: 66.66

Alvin smells conspiracy: "you are right. Trinidad are always sold out for ODIs and we are in the dry season. It is baffling to me as well why Trinidad did not get any matches, and they opted for the smaller capacity grounds. I feel it has to do with the strong adversarial stance WIPA takes against the WICB, as the WIPA president is Trinidadian"

Brian: "They scheduled a couple of ODIs against India I believe. At least you get the support there. Now that India is number one Trinidad is not even getting a test match which is sad."

11.2

Saeed Ajmal to Samuels, no run, flighted slowly around off, defended to the on side of the pitch

More conspiracy theories from Steve: "Great commetn Russell. Q.POval is georgeous and fun. They could sell out a West Indies vs Cambodia match. The only problem is that West Indies selectors would be forced to pick more Trinidadians and god forbid we upset the rest of the Caribbean nations...."
