Johnson Charles has been named as Darren Bravo's replacement in West Indies' squad for the World T20 to be played in India from March 8 to April 3.

Bravo, who didn't sign the central contracts offered by the West Indies Cricket Board last week, cited Test cricket as his top priority at this stage.

Charles, 27, played the last of his 23 T20Is during the series in Sri Lanka in November. He was also part of the squad that lifted the title in Sri Lanka in 2012; his swashuckling 84 earning him the Man of the Match award in the quarter-final against England.

Charles will head into the tournament on the back of a good showing for St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League, where he finished as the third-highest run-getter for his side.

West Indies have been drawn in Group 1 of the Super 10 stage where they will play alongside England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and one of the qualifiers from the first round.

Squad: Darren Sammy (Captain), Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn, Carlos Brathwaite, Dwayne Bravo, Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Ashley Nurse, Denesh Ramdin Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Jerome Taylor

@ Metman Glad to see you picking Braithwaite but i fear that Holder will get a game because he is the powers that be man who can do no wrong. Also glad to see you batting for Ramdin, so important to have the best keeper as wickets will be a premium in restricting scores in this format.

Darren Bravo and Darren Sammy in the SAME team IS the REASON and not preparing ones' self for test cricket as one Darren said. Wonder if Bravo is going to put up himself for next years IPL auction and expect the franchises to take him seriously ? After the last WC a D.J........said he wanted a break from test cricket when most people knew who he wanted a break from...and an opener said he played through that WC with an injury and therefore he won't be available for tests...remember who was the Test capt. at that time ???

Correction to my squad....forgot Bravo who should be in in place of Fletcher and in that case I would place Ramdin at # 3. Squad would therefore read..Gayle,Simmons,Ramdin,Samuels,Bravo,Russell,Sammy, Brathwaite,Taylor,Benn and Badree.

Charles is there because of the influence of Sammy ..plain and simple. On form I would have gone for Evin Lewis who is a better batsman and a cleaner hitter than Charles. I don't know how people view cricket, but as long as Ramdin is in the squad HE HAS TO PLAY. My best 11 from that squad would therefore have to be .......Gayle,Simmons,Fletcher. Samuels,Ramdin,Russelll,Sammy,Brathwaite,Taylor,Benn and Badree. WI also have to be wary of Gayle and Samuels performances as I suspect both of them will play ONE good innings each just to maintain their places on future teams.

I fully understand the philosophy of the selectors. They know that the "Mentality of the WI Players" is a serious problem. Consequently, they have not selected any new players with this aging team. This team will fail miserably and their age will accelerate their demise. Hence, after the T-20 WC, the selectors will not have player problems. They can select Lewis, Jaggersar the best off-spinner; and Sammy would be gone.

Charles...hah...one wicket opposing teams get for free .... I thought Evin Lewis from T&T would be called up, but since he is an opener, maybe that changed the dynamics..Ramdin is a waste...you have 'keepers' in Fletcher and now Charles....all along the same lines or should I say 'quality'. Still not a bad side, the main plus is quality hitters, but no real batsman. Samuels is done and dusted (watch him play one innings now and everything will be okay again). Nurse and Benn...hmmm...this is not the Caribbean....there may be some spin on offer, but they are not in the same league as Ashwin, Jadeja. All the best WI!

Unfortunately this picking of Charles will probably mean that Samuels will get a game. Charles was really not a like for like replacement. He is a hit or miss player and it really should have been Lewis. I hope if given a chance, he takes it. This is the scouting tournament for IPL.

@ rally windies Well said. There are so many posters calling for Ramdin's head and they do not provide viable alternatives. He is the best keeper hands down. The value of the keeper taking catches, stumping etc, steadily taking wickets restricts a batting team in T20.
