First One-day International

†INDIA v WEST INDIES 1983-84

At Srinagar, October 13. West Indies won on faster scoring-rate. This was a fair result, for when bad light and rain ended the match West Indies, with 23 overs and two balls remaining, were 108 without loss. Their original target was 177 from 46 overs. Batting in gloomy light and against accurate opening spells by Kapil Dev and Sandhu, Greenidge and Haynes were some time getting on terms with the asking-rate but eventually Haynes (three 4s, two 6s) led the charge. India, sent in on a pitch damp from condensation, had always struggled for runs.

Man of the Match: D. L. Haynes.
