World Series Cup

†PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES 1983-84

At Melbourne, January 12. Pakistan won by 97 runs. Pakistan sprang the surprise of the competition and raised hopes of providing the excitement missing from much of the Test series against Australia. Imran won the toss and batted, and after Pakistan had appeared in trouble at 87 for four, Qasim Omar and Miandad added a brisk 95. West Indies began poorly, and although he went without a wicket Qadir bowled beautifully in support of the faster bowlers. West Indies' 111 was their lowest total in official limited-overs cricket. Their previous lowest in the World Series Cup was also against Pakistan - 132 at Adelaide in 1981-82.

Man of the Match: Qasim Omar. Attendance: 13,295
