World Series Cup

†AUSTRALIA v INDIA 1985-86

At Melbourne, January 16 (day/night). India won by eight wickets. India, tempted by the long boundaries at the MCG, included Sivaramakrishnan, their leg-spinner, and with rain forecast they gained an advantage by winning the toss and batting second. Australia, under extra pressure because of the need to accelerate early for fear of rain, were 50 for five before Waugh rallied them with 73 from 104 balls. Two interruptions for rain reduced each side's innings by five overs. A moving ball and the accuracy of the Australian seamers made run-getting difficult, but after Srikkanth was run out. Gavaskar and Amarnath batted with considerable expertise.

Man of the Match: S. R. Waugh. Attendance: 52, 612.
