At Adelaide, December 14. India won by ten runs. Toss: India. Given a good pitch. India's batting came into its own. Srikkanth batted through half their innings for a typically volatile 82 (88 balls, ten fours, one six), with Patterson suffering hardest from his aggression. Although they could not impose the same authority, Manjrekar and Tendulkar found the gaps with imaginative placements and ran enterprisingly to add 75 from 14 overs. Then Azharuddin and Kapil Dev levied 42 from the last six. India's prosperity was enhanced by an early excess of wides and no-balls. West Indies had a magnificent start when Haynes (seven fours, one six) and Wallace shared 124 in 28 overs, but their middle order again proved brittle. After Hooper, Haynes and Arthurton fell for seven runs in consecutive overs, they were effectively out of the game.
Man of the Match: K. Srikkanth. Attendance: 5,673.
