Third Test Match

PAKISTAN v INDIA 1954-55

For the third Test running Pakistan enjoyed slight superiority without being able to force victory. Pakistan, who won the toss, began shakily but the middle batsmen brought recovery. Maqsood Ahmed was unfortunate to miss a century by one run and with Kardar added 136 for the fourth wicket. Good innings also came from Wazir Mohammad and Imtiaz Ahmed. Gupte accomplished a remarkable performance in sending down 73.5 overs in the innings, 33 being maidens. India again owed most to their later batsmen. Half the side fell for 117, but Umrigar, well supported by Gopinath and Mankad, restricted the Pakistan lead to 77. Pakistan failed to score at the necessary pace in their second innings and when they declared insufficient time remained for them to dismiss India again.
