At Calcutta, December 30, 31, January 1, 3, 4. Drawn. Another slow-scoring match, this time with rain intervening, led to a third stalemate. Pakistan were on top for nearly all the game.
Again they won the toss, but made a moderate start, losing six wickets for 201 on the first day. A seventh-wicket stand of 88 between Mushtaq Mohammad and Intikhab Alam helped them recover.
India, 83 for two on the second evening, were all out for the addition of 97, Fazal taking five for 26 in 26 overs. Because of the weather the third day ended half an hour after lunch and on the fourth day rain again limited play, only 63 runs being scored.
Pakistan 121 ahead, added 30 in the last eighty minutes and although Hanif and Burki put on 82 in just over an hour on the last morning, too much time had been lost. India, needing 267 in three hours, lost four wickets for 65, but easily saved the game.
