Sri Lanka v West Indies 1993-94

At Khetterama Stadium, Columbo, December 16 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by three wickets. Toss: West Indies. Sri Lanka pulled off only their second win in 18 limited-overs matches against West Indies withfiive balls to spare. A brave recovery was shaped by their captain, Ranatunga, who, after an unglamorous innnings, improbably savaged Ambrose for 12 runs in the penultimate over to level the scores. Sri Lanka entered the last nine overs needing only 50. Then Cummins, moving the ball menacingly in the night air, took three wickets in two overs. Bowling under the floodlights proved a mixed blessing, however; the ball often swung too much and West Indies gave away 18 wides. Earlier, Haynes and Lara made a rollicking start, with 128 from 26 overs, but the later batsmen were bogged down by the spinners.
