New Zealand in India and Pakistan, 1964-65

Between January 22 and July 13, less than six months, New Zealand took part in thirteen Test Matches. They began with three drawn matches in their own islands against Pakistan and England, taking with them fifteen players under the management of W. A. Hadlee, captain of the 1949 team in England.

After drawing the first three matches in India, they lost the fourth at New Delhi by seven wickets. They were beaten heavily in two of their three meetings with Pakistan, at Rawalpindi and Karachi. Entirely different conditions awaited them in England where rain and cold winds persisted and not suprisingly they lost the last three Tests of this arduous programme. The team had to be reinforced by the time they reached Pakistan as J. T. Ward, the only wicket-keeper of repute, was injured in India. Consequently, A. E. Dick joined the side. Happily, Ward recovered and took his share of the duties in England.
