Second One-Day International

Sri Lanka v England

At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, November 21, 2003 (day/night). No result.

The folly of staging cricket during Colombo's wet season was all too evident when the teams arrived at the Premadasa Stadium to find that parts of the outfield had been rendered a boggy mess by rain in the preceding week. Attempts to get the game under way were wrecked by further showers. Any chance of holding the match the following day had already fallen by the wayside after a disagreement between the two boards: Sri Lanka had insisted that any new game start afresh, while England wanted a continuation of whatever play might have been possible. It left Vaughan expressing concern about the scheduling of the series and the quality of the pitch covering.
