West Indies v Sri Lanka

Fazeer Mohammed

At Bridgetown, June 7, 2003. Sri Lanka won by 55 runs. Toss: West Indies.

After three consecutive victories at the end of their one-day series against Australia, West Indies were blown away by an opening burst from Vaas and Nissanka, who reduced West Indies to 19 for four in swinging conditions. In pursuit of a modest 202, Lara's unbeaten 64 was a lone effort and his team fell embarrassingly short as Muralitharan took three for 17 and stifled attempts at a late revival. Sri Lanka had also found scoring difficult after losing Jayasuriya in the first over, and needed an unusually subdued fifty from Kaluwitharana to reach respectability.

Man of the Match: M. Muralitharan.
