Zimbabwe v Afghanistan, 2014

by two wickets. Zimbabwe 261-8 (50 overs) (H. Masakadza 84, B. R. M. Taylor 53, S. C. Williams 49); ‡Afghanistan 264-8 (49.4 overs) (Javed Ahmadi 56, Usman Ghani 43, Samiullah Shenwari 41, Mohammad Nabi 42). MoM: H. Masakadza. ODI debut: Nasir Ahmadzai (Afghanistan). Afghanistan achieved their second victory over a Full Member, prompting a weary Brendan Taylor to wonder if his team could get any worse. Zimbabwe had pledged not to sit back on their 2-0 series lead, though the decision to rest Tinashe Panyangara and Prosper Utseya suggested otherwise. Afghanistan needed 61 from the last five overs, but Mohammad Nabi pulled two huge sixes off Raza in the 47th, before being run out coming back for a second - a decision he contested with the umpires. Dawlat Zadran cleared the ropes from his second and third deliveries, and thumped two more sixes to secure victory with two wickets and two balls in hand. Masakadza had earlier continued his fine form with 84, but Zimbabwe did not take full advantage when Shapoor Zadran limped out of the attack with cramp after bowling 5.4 tidy overs.
