News : Will continue with criticism - Moin

Series/Tournaments: Pakistan tour of Zimbabwe

Moin Khan, the Pakistan team manager for the Zimbabwe tour, has defended the team saying that although they played badly in the two matches they lost, the overall performance was "satisfactory". He added that the team didn't need to apologise for the results as they had not lost the Test series.

"I don't think our level is falling," Moin said. "I think the conditions suited Zimbabwe team more than us. In both the matches that we lost (one-day and Test) we played badly. We didn't bat well in the second Test, but overall I would say that our performance was satisfactory.

"No, no need to apologise. We didn't lose the series. It was 1-1 and we won the T20 and one-day series."

After his appointment as the manager ahead of the tour, Moin had said he would not refrain from criticising the team, but when asked about the performance of specific players, he said that it was important not to "demoralise" the players and take measures to boost the confidence.

"I won't say that he is consistently failing," Moin said about Mohammad Hafeez, who had an ordinary Test series. "He did well in the T20s and one-dayers. He is a good performer but his batting was not good in Tests but he is keen and will try to regain his form."

Moin praised the performances of the team's seniors, highlighting the contribution of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan. "Misbah's performance is very good. Younis ended up with the man-of-the-series award," he said. "If you look at our batting then seniors played their part. Misbah was there till the end but no one helped him from the other end."

Moin said that the coach, Dav Whatmore, will take necessary measures to overcome the mistakes made during the tour.

"It was not in my domain to plan things," he said. "Everyone makes mistakes and I am sure that Whatmore will be doing his best to overcome those mistakes. When you lose to a team like Zimbabwe you learn a lot of lessons."

Cant understand pakistan team selection . on one side you have captain age 40+ and on other side you have put out experienced pure class & talented players old as 32-33 calling them too old for cricket. On one side you say your preparing team for world cup and on other hand you have 40+ age captain and leaving out class players like abdul razzaq, fawad alam, mohammad yusuf etc . On one side you say you have best bowling attack on other hand you dont even have "one" decent fast bowler!. This pakistan selection saying they are getting young blood into the team dont even understand themself what they are doing seems like , currently pakistan lacks in all departments its not going to win any tournament and in future if they continue like this and all credit goes to the team managment.

Every time i open the page of cricinfo i see the moin khan comment about his satisfaction towards the pak performance in zim tour. satisfaction my foot. they are loosing with zim by playing dull cricket and he is saying pak played good cricket. pak team doesn't deserve even sixth position in test ranking. the must be bellow zim team bcoz they almost lost first test when zim had dominate almost upto forth day. pak easily lost second test. they never look like there is any chance for pak win in second test. they played such a dull cricket and disappoint their fan in all over the world. but sitll moin think they played satisfactory cricket. disgusting comment.

@ murad: who will bowl 100-120 overs on flat wickets in your test team?

Posted by Desihungama on (September 17, 2013, 16:18 GMT)

Make Saeed Ajmal the captain and Misbah in playing eleven only. It will pay huge dividends for Pak Cricket.

Pak performance is far from satisfactory. Its abysmal and defending it is even worst. Its time to let Misbah play as a player only in test team for 1 year or so.

Pak team young players lack confidence and guidance, they require bowling coach like waqar younis to train the young bowling players of team and batting coach like inzimam. There's not even "one" experienced fast bowler in team from whom other young players can learn and not even one proper all-rounder in the whole team other then on and off performances of shahid afridi. I think pakistan team at this stage dont stand any chance for winning any tournaments either big or small unless they put there minds together how to get out of this mess. The way i see it is if you dont have talent then just train new players from "proper" seniors guidance so they become potential players with experience over time for the country team.

"When you reach bottom, then the only direction you go is up." It seems that Moin Khan does not think that Pakistani Cricket has hit the rock bottom yet.
