South Africa A 244 for 8 (Rossouw 92, Vitori 3-35) beat Zimbabwe XI 227 (Chakabva 50, Theron 4-43, Alexander 3-38) by 17 runs
Scorecard

South Africa A's late strikes helped them to a 17-run win against Zimbabwe XI in Harare, and put them in the final of the tri-series, where they will face Australia A on July 8.

Asked to bat, South Africa built their total around a fluent 92 by Rilee Rossouw. The rest of the top order got starts, but none of them carried on to produce big runs. The best partnership of the innings involved Rossouw and Vaughn van Jaarsveld - 77 for the fifth-wicket - as South Africa pushed on to a competitive 244 for 8 in their 50 overs. Left-armer Brian Vitori and medium-pacer Elton Chigumbura were the pick of the bowlers for Zimbabwe, claiming five wickets between them at less than four runs an over.

Zimbabwe's chase was on course for more than half their innings, as solid cameos from the top order pushed them to 145 for 2 in the 28th over and then 178 for 3 in the 33rd. But late bursts from quicks Rusty Theron and Craig Alexander caused a mini-collapse that reduced Zimbabwe to 210 for 9. That left the last pair of Chris Mpofu and Vitori, with 35 to get from 73 balls; they got halfway there, before Alexander had Vitori edging to the keeper to end the innings on 227 in 43 overs.

the reason why they lost in the end is coz they needed to beat s.a within 40 overs inorder to keep their hopes of qualifying for the final alive.it would have made no difference if they won the match after 40 overs, they would have been knocked out.so it was a all or nothing kinda scenario.....that being sed, chigumbura must go!!!!!!

Im inclined to say that I agree with kudakc, He who does not work MUST not eat, that should apply to the whole team- look at Streaks work- the evidence is there to see , mpofu Vitori chatara - instead of building a cricket academy which is all commendable chigumbura and the misfiring lot should see to the business of winning winnable matches !

How can a team cruising at a RR of over 5 an over - with the required rate being just 2,50 conspire to loose 5 wickets in the space of a few overs? I understand that one positive was that the team was staffed by a next to third team zim, baring Hamilton , Regis , Utseya - Vitori- instead of chigumbura - but surely the idea must be not to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! Zim ix and SA A are on an even footing, zim should have won at least one of the matches , even one match against AUS. does q gone have the figures for how fast the zim quicks were bowling ?

i have a great suggestion to improve the performance of the zim cricketers. they should be paid performance based salaries that means for every silly defeat like the two games against SA there will be no allowances. That's the only way to balance things here. How can you throw away such an advantage snatching defeat from the jaws victory.

SA cricket almost sank in everylevels, their bating, bowling and feilding still going down.the SA cricketers wherever they play(england county, domestic level ,'A' team and international side )they are showing lack of talent ,hard-working and poor system............ next match 'A' will lose to AUS..........I HAVE WATCHED THEM 1992 to 2011 .(everymatch ) but now stopped,,,,,,,ZIMbabwe lost the gollden chance.

Very dissapointing that Zim could not win the two matches against SA when we were in excellent positions to do so! In fact we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory both times. I agree totally with Titch that we had only to get singles and we would have won but instead, guys went out and tried to smash the ball for some reason. Great to see Chakabva increase his run rate but Waller, why could you not stick around a bit longer and show more patience? on the other hand yes, it was experimental and it was good to see Vitori introduced for the first time. I guess Taibu, Williams and Taylor and Price were out to allow some youngsters a chance.

Another batting flop by Elton Chigumbura, time to bring in Taibu & Chibhaba.

absolutely disapointing to lose a match we had in the bag. the asking rate was under control yet the guys still went out guns blazing-live by the sword .....many positives though, VITORI...wonderful, chakabva ..finally he gets his 50...zim looking good ...look forward to seeing chatara and whats up with taylor?
