A tall left arm fast bowler, Kent French burst onto the Canberra cricket scene late in the 1998/99 season. He took twenty wickets in the last five grade matches of the season to win the bowling average. This performance earned him selection in the Canberra Comets Winter Squad and excellent performances in the trial matches earned him selection for the Canberra Comets season squad and he made his senior representative debut in the Comets ACB Cup match against the Queensland Academy of Sport.
