Carlton Baugh has struggled to become a regular member of the West Indian team, but he got another opportunity in the Test team in 2010, six years after he had last played one, when the selectors finally ran out of patience with Denesh Ramdin. Baugh is a tidy wicketkeeper, but in an age when wicketkeepers are expected to be above-average batsmen, that aspect of the game has so far held Baugh back.

Baugh first got a look-in in the West Indies squad when he wasn't even a regular behind the stumps for Jamaica. His tidy wicketkeeping and explosive lower-order batting earned him a spot in the West Indies squad for the first Test of 2002-03 series against Australia. After impressive displays for the West Indies B Team, Baugh really grabbed the selectors' attention with a quickfire hundred against domestic champions Barbados. And just to prove it was no fluke, a few weeks later he smashed another hundred - this time against Australia for a Guyana Board XI - carting Stuart MacGill for 16 in one over. Thereafter, a combination of poor batting form and Ramdin kept him out of the international teams, but when Ramdin's performances dropped, the West Indian selectors went back to Baugh.
