One of the many promising young players who were given their break when Vijay Merchant was chairman of the selection committee, Gandotra was a sound left hand batsman who played in one Test each, against New Zealand and Australia in 1969-70, without much success. Outstanding at the University level, Gandotra, in a decade long first class career, scored 2121 runs (28.66) with two centuries. (Partab Ramchand)
