Agragamee win again

The visiting Agragamee Sangha under-16 cricket team from Shiliguri, West Bengal, maintained their winning spree when they defeated Maple Leaf International School by 49 runs in an exhibition match played at the Dhaka Stadium yesterday.

Middle-order Bikramjit Bhowmik hammered an unbeaten 72 as the tourists, electing to bat after calling the coin correctly, scored 178 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 40 overs.

One-down Kamal (25) and lower middle-order Riddhiman (22), were the other notable rungetters.

For Maple Leaf, new-ball bowlers Rashed and Sunny evenly shared four wickets.

In reply, the reputed English medium institution were all out for 129 in 39 overs with opener Moinuddin scoring highest 32.

Agragamee's Chanchal and Sumanta, the boys behind Maple Leaf's debacle, captured three wickets each conceding only 23 and 24 runs respectively.

The winners will face the Madaripur district under-16 team in their next match at the Madaripur Stadium this morning.

Schools cricket

Aftab, Loretto ingroup finals

Aftab Memorial Academy and Loretto School reached the group finals in 16th national schools cricket championship defeating Mirpur Siddhanta High School and Nabakumar Institute at different venues in the city yesterday, reports UNB.

Aftab Memorial defeated Mirpur Siddhanta by 58 runs at the City Club ground.

Batting first, Aftab Memorial scored 147 all out in 28.1 overs. In reply, Mirpur Siddhanta were shot out for 81 in 24 overs.

At the Uttara Friends Club ground, Loretto beat Nabakumar Institute by 21 runs.

Loretto made 140 for seven in the 20-over a side affair. Nabakumar in their chase mustered 119 for six after 20 overs.

In the day's other engagements, Nilkhet High School, Vashaprodip School and Armanitola High School recorded victories.

Nilkhet High School reached the group semifinals defeating Badda Alatunnesa High School by 20 runs at the Mirpur Outer Stadium.

Batting first, Nilkhet High School scored 133 in 29.2 overs. Badda made 113 in 25.4 overs.

Vashaprodip School beat Shahid Smriti School by three wickets at the Dhanmondi Club ground and reached the group semifinals.

Shahid Smriti scored 125 in 26.2 overs. Vashaprodip reached the target of 126 losing seven wickets in 25.2 overs.

Armanitola High School outplayed Oxford English School by 150 runs at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium in their first group engagement.

Batting first, Armanitola High School scored 203 for seven in 30 overs. In reply, Oxford English were bundled out for 53 in 23.2 overs.

National qualifiers BUET cricket team named Sports Reporter

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) yesterday named an 18-member cricket team including two officials which will take part in the qualifying round of the 24th national cricket championship to be held in Satkhira from tomorrow.

Khulna, Jhenidah, Barisal, Meherpur, Patuakhali, Bogra and Faridpur are the other seven teams to take part in the zonal qualifying round.

Following 16 cricketers have been selected for the BUET team: Dr Mofizur Rahman (captain, Associate Professor, Civil), Rais Ahmed (Lecturer, Civil) Sanaul Islam (Electrical), Sajjad Haidar Khan (Marine), Enamul Hauq (Metallurgy), Ahsan Ali (Chemical), Rezaul Karim (Mechanical), Swapan Kumar Mandal (Mechanical), Mobashwarul Hasan (Civil), Mahmudur Rahman (Civil), Miftah Uddin Khan (Chemical), Iqbal Hossain (Mechanical), Selim Ahmed (Civil), Nazmus Saqeb (Electrical), Syed Rashid Ahmed (Electrical) and Maksuddur Rahman (Electrical). Besides, Prof. M Mizanur Rahman of IPE Department and AKM Maruful Haque of Physical Education Department, will act as the manager and coach of the team which will take on Patuakhali in their opening knock-out match on May 3.
