The League champions St. Peter's College will take on Ananda in a key
Elephant Lemonade Cup knock-out cricket tournament quarter-final
fixture at the R. Premadasa Stadium today.
The Peterites had an easy passage into the quarter-finals by
defeating Mahanama and St. John's Panadura in the first round and
pre-quarter-finals respectively. But this time they are up against a
formidable side and no doubt they will be under tremendous pressure.
The Anandians will be determined to win this game after having been
pushed into the eighth position in the 'A' Division League
championship. They also suffered a shock defeat at the hands of their
traditional rivals Nalanda in their annual limited over encounter
recently. But they recovered well and recorded two good victories
over St. Anne's College, Kurunegala and Raddoluwa MV.
S. Thomas' College will go in as favourites when they take on
Kalutara MV in their quarterfinal fixture at the CCC grounds,
Maitland Crescent. The Thomians are quite confident having scored an
impressive win over Isipatana in the pre quarter-finals. Kalutara MV
reached the last eight by recording two victories over Richmond and
President's College.
The giant killers St. Sylvester's College will be up against Lumbini
MV in their quarter-final match at NCC grounds, Maitland Place. The
Sylvestrians knocked out the favourites Nalanda in the pre
quarterfinals after having defeated Bandaranayake MMV in a first
round encounter. Lumbini MV defeated Group 'C' League champions Asoka
MV in the first round and followed up with another good win over
Joseph Vaz College in the pre quarter-finals.
Meanwhile the traditional rivals St. Sebastian's College and Prince
of Wales College will battle it out in another quarterfinal match at
the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium. The Sebastianites edged out D.S.
Senanayake while the Cambrians defeated Vidyartha on a faster run
rate during the pre quarter-finals.
