Hadlee 'better' after taking ill

New Zealand cricket's elder statesman, Walter Hadlee, is recovering at home after a night in hospital having taken ill at the sport's awards function.

Hadlee, 83, was admitted to hospital late Tuesday night, but was discharged yesterday.

A son, Dayle, said he was resting comfortably at home and feeling much better.

"We are not quite sure what the problem is at present. A lot more tests still have to done," Dayle Hadlee said.

Earlier in the awards evening Walter Hadlee was one of five New Zealand captains presented with a numbered black cap along with John R. Reid, Jeremy Coney, Martin Crowe, and incumbent Stephen Fleming.

New Zealand Cricket is honouring all 207 players to have represented their country at test level with presentations of a boxed black cap dated with their debut. Each is numbered corresponding with their order of appearance for New Zealand. Hadlee is No. 29, Reid No. 49, Coney No. 129, Crowe No. 149 and Fleming No. 188.
