The Board of Control for Cricket in India has asked the national
selectors to meet in Mumbai on February 5 to pick the Indian team for
the proposed tri-nation one-day tournament also involving Pakistan and
Bangladesh from February 8 to 11 at Sharjah to raise funds for the
earthquake victims in Gujarat.
Board sources told PTI on Thursday night that a letter from BCCI
secretary Jaywant Lele had been issued to the selectors asking them to
reach Mumbai by February 4 evening.
The sources said the Sharjah tour was likely to be cleared by the
government as it was being organised for a noble cause.
The decision for conducting the tournament was taken at a meeting of
the financial wing of Asian Cricket Council in Lahore yesterday evening.
The Sharjah event, if cleared by the government, would affect the
conduct of the Challenger Series from February 12 to 15 in Chennai and
the sources said it could be postponed.
