Masood Salahuddin has been killed in a car crash in Lahore at the age of 90. A fast-medium bowler and capable late-order batsman, he played twice for India against Australia in unofficial Tests in 1935-36, scoring 41 runs and taking 2 for 36.

After partition, he played in Pakistan and went on to became a national selector. In that capacity, he ended up umpiring a Test between Pakistan and India at Karachi in 1954-55 in odd circumstances. A row over the appointed umpire left the organisers with one official on the eve of the game. "It was past midnight when an official joked, "We have one qualified first-class umpire - our selector Masood Salauddin - but you will not accept him." To everyone's surprise, Lala Amarnath agreed to let Salauddin officiate the Test. This is probably the only instance where a home team selector has officiated as umpire. In fact, Salauddin gave Abdul Hafeez Kardar out stumped after he had made 93. No other Pakistan umpire would have dared give him out, Amarnath recalled."
