Fantasy Picks: England players should make merry against Thailand

Fantasy suggestions for the T20 World Cup game between England and Thailand

February 26: T20 World Cup - England v Thailand, Canberra

Our XI: Amy Jones, Nannapat Koncharoenkai, Nattaya Boochatham, Danielle Wyatt, Natalie Sciver, Heather Knight, Katherine Brunt, Anya Shrubsole, Sophie Ecclestone, Suleeporn Laomi, Chanida Sutthiruang
Captain: Natalie Sciver
Sciver has been in excellent form, scoring two fifties in her last three T20Is. The latest one came against South Africa in England's opening game of the World Cup. The last time she played in Canberra, she picked up 3 for 23 against Australia. As a player covering both bases, she should be your captain.
Vice-captain: Amy Jones
Jones started off brilliantly against South Africa with four crisp boundaries but got out for 23 attempting another big shot. Against a team with a relatively weaker bowling attack, she could go on to make a big score.
Hot Picks
Katherine Brunt: Brunt didn't pick up a wicket nor did she get going with the bat against South Africa, but she had seven wickets in five T20Is prior to the South Africa game.
Anya Shrubsole: Shrubsole, the only England bowler to pick up a hat-trick in a women's T20 World Cup game, swings the new ball at pace, and that will be a key factor against an inexperienced Thailand batting line-up.
Danielle Wyatt: Wyatt has looked out of sorts in T20Is of late, with just 49 runs in her last five innings. That said, she has scored two hundreds and seven fifties in the format and also has a career strike rate of 123.53.
Value Picks
Sophie Ecclestone: Ecclestone has now picked up at least one wicket in her last 15 T20Is. She also has nerves of steel, which she proved by bowling overs 17 and 19 against South Africa and conceding just nine runs in them, while also picking up two wickets.
Suleeporn Laomi: She might have gone unnoticed against West Indies, but on another day, when the chase is steeper, her bowling could be gold. Laomi bowled four overs for just 14 runs against the likes of Stafanie Taylor and Shemaine Campbelle, her career T20I economy is 3.52, and she is definitely a value pick.
Points to note
  • In their last five T20Is, England have scored 35 runs in the Powerplay (1-6) on an average and 44 runs at the death (16-20).
  • England have scored at 6.68 against pace and at 6.55 against spin in those five games.
  • Consider making Sophie Ecclestone your vice-captain if England bowl first.
