Finally a pleasant note, the stylish young batsman, to end this bitter game on. Fair to say there won't be beers shared at the end of this all. That just about wraps it up. Thanks from the crew here for joining us. Until next time...
Mahela Jayawardene is the Man of the Match. He says: "It was a surprise to be called up. It is good to be in Australia. I have always wanted to play in Australia. It is good to contribute to my team, and happy with the way I played today. Very good batting wicket. Just have to stay there and knock a few around and then it is runs all the way."
Well that was quite an interview. Quite damning about Australia, the crowds in particular. Here is Alec Stewart now: "A few things went on that you don't want to see not just in international cricket but any cricket at all. I think a few people need to look at how they play the game. I am not naming names. Everyone has seen it.
"I am not going to make a comment on Murali but what I will say is we have been brought up to accept umpire's decisions. Today that didn't happen.
"Things have to be sorted out. A lot of press, a lot of talk, and it has all come to head. It is unfortunate for the individual, and the boards involved. Murali has been passed but on the day it comes down to the umpire, how they see things. It is just like a run0out or an lbw or anything else.
"It was a big score. It was a tremendous effort to knock off 300. The lad who got the hundred played very very well. We may have had a run-out decision not go our way, but that's all part of the game."
Quite a match, and I am expecting fireworks at the presentation too. Here is winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga first. "I just want to forget what happened when we were in the field. We batted very well, it was not an easy task, but Mahela and Sanath got us a great start. Mahela didn't make the original squad because we could play just five batsmen. But yeah one of the best one-day knocks I have seen.
"I never thought of leaving Murali out. He has bowled all over the world, and we never had a problem at all. The suddenly one guy comes and calls him. It is really unfortunate. It is really bad on the part of Australian cricket, I suppose.
"Murali is different. He has a really bad arm. Everyone knows about it. The person who calls him with the naked eye must be having a really really good eye. Any batsman would love to have that eye. He will score thousand runs in two months.
"Boys backed him really well. We knew we had to win a game for Murali. That's what happened today.
"Murali wanted to come around the wicket. He asked the umpire to stand really close to the stumps, and he was refusing to do that. The umpire should know what his job is. If I have to take Murali to the other end, it is really pathetic.
"Very tense for us. One of the most tense games I have played in. That must be the reason for some bad blood with England players. We will be very careful about that in the future.
"We get the same umpires towards the end of the tour. We have to take a firm decision what have to do. It is up to the board or the government what to do about this. We never had a problem anywhere, except Australia. I think most of the cricketers will try to avoid Australia now. The public has been really bad on Murali, the media has been really bad. It has been pathetic. He has taken 200 Test wickets. It is really pathetic. We loved to come to Australia, but we now have a completely different image."
At least there are handshakes between the two sides. This has been a bitter-old match. In the end, the match had a mind of its own, and Sri Lanka have won in chaotic fashion. The dressing room is delighted, and they welcome Murali back with glee. The spotlight of course remains on Murali, who has had a harrowing tour with crowds heckling him all over, with it all coming to a head when he was no-balled earlier today. Sri Lanka threatened to walk off, but came back on, and Murali hits the winning run. The hero, though, is the 21-year-old Jayawardene with a superlative century, the first of many, to set up the chase. No-ball call for chucking, pandemonium around a failed light tower, two batsmen reprieved by umpires going on to get tons, a four called a six, a youngster announcing himself, proper verbals, shoulder barge, inside edges bringing the victory, this match had everything...
I am sure you want to know what the teams make of this action. I will leave it to Andrew Miller to bring their comments to you. Thanks for joining us
