Victoria 185 and 5 for 236 (Rogers 70, Tremain 3-51) beat New South Wales 208 and 212 (Nevill 56, Maddinson 51, McDonald 4-41, Siddle 3-57) by five wickets
Scorecard
Andrew McDonald helped Victoria finish their season with a win over New South Wales but it wasn't enough to earn them a place in the Sheffield Shield final. Victories to Queensland and Tasmania in the last round of matches meant they will play off for the title and the Bushrangers had to settle for third place, the Bulls having one extra win and the Tigers having a better quotient.
McDonald picked up 4 for 41 and Peter Siddle collected 3 for 57 in the New South Wales second innings to give Victoria a target of 236 on the third day. The former Victoria squad member Peter Nevill top scored for the Blues with 56, which capped off a strong summer in which he scored 570 Shield runs at 51.81 and collected 21 dismissals as wicketkeeper.
Chris Rogers gave Victoria a strong start to their chase with 70 and Rob Quiney scored 31, which ensured he finished on top of the Shield run tally after the qualifying matches with 938 at an average of 49.36. Glenn Maxwell scored 43 before McDonald (32 not out) and Peter Handscomb (36 not out) took Victoria home with five wickets in hand.
