Seamers lead Haryana to first win

A round-up of the fourth day's play of Group A's third round matches from the Ranji Trophy

Haryana 309 (Dalal 58, Sunny 53, Aaron 4-48) and 124 (Rana 84, Rao 4-35) beat Jharkhand 231 (Tiwary 95, Mohit 4-30) and 172 (Thakkar 64, Jaggi 53, Mohit 4-51) by 30 runs
Scorecard
Haryana's seamers ensured that Jharkhand would not get to the 203-run target with a disciplined bowling performance as Haryana held on to a 30-run win on the final day in Rohtak to get their first win of the tournament. Resuming on 74 for 3, and still needing a further 129 runs to achieve their goal, both overnight batsmen, Bhavin Thakkar and Ishank Jaggi, needed to capitalise on their starts, and pressed on for another ten overs before Jaggi fell soon after getting his half-century to Joginder Sharma. Thakkar then took charge as he and newcomer, Bhavik Thaker, battled to get close.
Jharkand looked solid on 135 for 4 when Mohit Sharma bowled the 62nd over. He first removed Thaker off the fourth ball, before taking out Gautam just two balls later to leave Jharkhand on 139 for 6. Just seven overs later and Jharkhand suffered another double-strike as Haryana began to tighten their hold on the match. Once Thakkar, who was on 64, having faced 193 balls, was dismissed in the 70th over, it was all but over as Haryana took the final wicket with Jharkhand on 172 to register the victory. Mohit picked up best figures of 4 for 51, with Harshal Patel and Joginder taking thee and two respectively. Mohit finished the match with figures of 8 for 81.
Odisha 453 for 6 dec (Niranjan Behera 131, Sahoo 114*, Podder 74, Deepak Behera 58*, Jungade 4-56) drew with Vidarbha 382 (Fazal 124, Badani 65, Parida 60, Mohanty 5-59)
Scorecard
With the prospect of a result already looking slim, Vidarbha resumed on the fourth morning on 199 for 3, with Faiz Fazal unbeaten on 124 and Hemang Badani on 32. Fazal, however, was not able to add on to his overnight tally as he was removed off the first ball by Deepak Behera. A 46-run stand for the sixth wicket by Badani and Rashmi Parida was cut abruptly when Dhiraj Singh had Badani caught by Girjia Rout on 65. Wickets continued to fall in regular intervals and Vidarbha were finally dismissed for 382. Odisha did not bat again and the match ended on a stalemate .
