Gloucestershire left frustrated after Miles troubles Yorkshire

ECB/PA
26-Jul-2015
Gloucestershire 5 for 0 v Yorkshire 227 (Bresnan 43, Miles 4-29, Fuller 3-45) - Match Abandoned
Scorecard
Both Yorkshire and Gloucestershire were left frustrated after rain brought a premature end to their opening match in the Royal London Cup at Scarborough.
The visitors could claim they were in the ascendant when the rain that had plagued the rest of the country finally arrived on the North Yorkshire coast.
Replying to the home side's barely adequate 227 all out in exactly 50 overs, Gloucestershire openers had made just five without loss off two overs when the weather closed in. Each side took one point from the game.
Gloucestershire's frustration was probably compounded by the fact that they only needed to have scored 20 without loss in the opening 10 overs of their innings to have won the game under the Duckworth-Lewis system.
Even more significantly, they could take pleasure from a bowling display that had restricted Yorkshire to a shade above four and a half runs an over with impressive seamer Craig Miles taking 4 for 29 from nine overs with two maidens.
On a pitch which offered Michael Klinger's bowlers plenty of bounce, three of the top six home batsmen reached the 30s but none of them could score more than Glenn Maxwell, whose 33 included three fours and a straight six.
Maxwell was caught off a no-ball and then dropped in the 19th over of the innings, bowled by James Fuller, and his luck finally ran out when he was caught by Geraint Jones, the fielder who had spilled him, at mid-off from the very next ball.
Fuller then inflicted the indignity of a golden duck on Jack Leaning when he bowled him with a fine ball in the same eventful over to leave Yorkshire on 82 for 4.
Earlier, Alex Lees had made 14 and Andrew Gale 16 before both had been caught at the wicket by Gareth Roderick off Fuller and Miles respectively.
Gary Ballance and Will Rhodes attempted to repair the innings with a fifth-wicket stand of 46 but Ballance was caught behind by Roderick off Kieran Noema-Barnett for 31 when attempting to guide the medium-pacer to third man.
Miles took the next three wickets in the space of 11 balls. First Rhodes was superbly caught at slip by a diving Klinger for 32. Then Andrew Hodd and Liam Plunkett fell to consecutive balls to leave the Vikings on 151 for 8.
However, Tim Bresnan and Steve Patterson then added 57 inside 11 overs in an excellent ninth-wicket stand before Patterson was leg before to Tom Smith for 24.
Bresnan went on to make 43 off 55 balls, an innings including three fours and two sixes, before he was caught by Chris Dent at deep midwicket off slow left-armer Smith off the final ball of the innings. The last two wickets had added 76 invaluable runs.
