Joy and sorrow collide. Pakistan players get into a celebratory huddle even as South African players look pretty downcast in the dressing room.

It was another bizarrely mediocre performance from South Africa. There was no urgency in the chase; they meandered, stumbled, had an occasional burst of inspiration but for the major part they struggled.

Please hang on for the quotes from the players.

Smith: "We are very very disappointed. We struggled with the bat. We lacked the fluency and positivity. Only AB played with any .. it has been the story of the tournament. This team is talented to be playing this way .. it has been very very disapointing."

Afridi: "The boys really performed very well. Kamran Akmal .. Umar akmal .. my partnership with Umar too ..Captain's performance is always important. .. I have already started praying that England should win the next game!"

Man of the match is Umar Akmal: "There was no pressure on me. The coach and captain backed me. I just played my positive game. The wicket was good and the ball went where I wanted it to go. "

That's it from us. See you at the second game.

lovely doosra that breaks away like a big leg break to Akmal. Pakistan have done their bit to stay in the competition while South Africa go home. Congrats Pakistan!

Ajmal to van der Merwe, 2 runs

slows up the pace, shortens the length, pulled over midwicket for couple of runs. Kamran Akmal celebrates. Gloom in the SA dressing room

Neil Aldridge : "All I'm seeing is words like 'driven, flicked and pushed'....today we (SA) hit new levels of mediocrity! Charl must be sat in the dug-out cursing!"

Ajmal to Botha, OUT

Done in by the doosra! Ajmal strikes for Pakistan. It broke away from Botha, who went for the slog sweep, and Akmal did the rest. Botha had stretched out his back leg outside the crease. He played well but the big hits came too late for South Africa.

Ouch! Full toss on the leg stump line, Albie goes for the swing to the on side, misses it and is hit on the groin. Ouchy! Albie is down on the ground in pain. Physio rushes out. It was a full toss and probably deserved to fly out of the boundary but instead ...
