Lee Carseldine's unbeaten 64 saw Queensland home with two balls to spare in Geelong, where Victoria's loss was only their second in the four years the competition has been running. Carseldine guided the Bulls' chase of 162 after some tight bowling from Dirk Nannes, who picked up 2 for 19, gave Victoria hope of defending the middling score.
Queensland needed 22 off the final two overs but a pair of sixes off Damien Wright in the 19th, from Carseldine and Glen Batticciotto, made the task much simpler. Brad Hodge (42) was the top scorer for Victoria, who never quite reached top gear against a Queensland attack that included the fast bowler Alister McDermott, the son of Craig McDermott. He collected 1 for 13 on debut.
Tasmania failed to capitalise first on a good start and then on a Western Australia collapse and ended up on the losing side in Perth. Rhett Lockyear's 49 from 34 balls gave the Tigers a reasonable opening and George Bailey continued on with 39. However, a tail-end collapse - the last six wickets fell for 22 - gave Tasmania an under-par total of 128 as Umar Gul and Brett Dorey kept things tights and grabbed three wickets each.
Despite the loss of four wickets in the Warriors' first ten overs, the odds remained in their favour with only 66 more runs required. When they slipped to 6 for 89 the balance tilted and with three overs to go they required 31 more. The No. 7 Craig Simmons held his nerve to score an unbeaten 31 off 20 balls and took the Warriors to second place on the points table.
