Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) are on the verge of victory in their four-day Patron's Trophy Quadrangular Stage match against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) at the National Sports Complex in Karachi. They need another 42 runs to win with eight wickets in hand.
KRL began the third day on 19 for 4, still 115 runs of avoiding an innings defeat. However, Bilal Asad, Mohammad Wasim and Yasir Arafat struck half-centuries to ensure that WAPDA had to bat again. Asad and Wasim added 100 runs for the sixth wicket but after that stand was broken wickets fell at regular intervals as KRL folded for 227. Kashif Raza finished with 4 for 58 while Sarfraz Ahmed and Azharullah contributed 2 for 45 and 2 for 32.
Needing 95 to win, WAPDA progressed to 53 for 2 at stumps. Zulqarnain Haider scored 33 before he was bowled by Asad. Tariq Aziz, on 5, and Aamer Sajjad, on 4, were at the crease.
