short ball, fetches the pull from outside off and lays into it as the ball screams past the deep square leg boundary
Sixers vs Thunder, 25th Match at Sydney, Jan 14 2017 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Thunder won by 8 wickets (with 60 balls remaining)
Massive game coming up with the Scorchers facing off against the Stars. Lot riding on that game and it could possibly decide Thunder's fate. So switch tabs and stay tuned for that match. That's it for this game. Thank you for joining us. Until next time.
So Sydney Thunder have shot up from bottom of the table straight up to fifth. Ten overs are all they needed to knock off the target. Their net run rate has obviously had a huge surge as well. But their dismal start means that despite their third successive win, their fate now does not entirely rest on their hands. Thunder's celebrations could be short-lived and they will have their eyes firmly on the next match, between Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Stars. If the Stars win, it will more or less spell the end for Thunder. The two lasting memories from this game will be Carlos Brathwaite's dabs, and Fawad Ahmed's spell. What a bowling display that was! It's not often that we get to see spin bowling of that quality in a T20 match. Fawad bowled superbly and tied up the Sixers batsmen in knots. It was always going to be hard to bounce back from 99 for 9 and the chase threw up no surprises.
Carlos Brathwaite - We started really well. We did our job pretty well and restricted them to 100-odd. We did what we had to do and now our result is left in the hands of others. We are having fun, enjoyed these two games. Just happy to be able to play my part. We feel confident, we need to take care of preparations and control what we can control, plan well and execute well. Whatever happens, happens.
Gurjot Singh: "Fawad Ahmed is seriously giving National selectors a good food for thought prior to the Indian tour! Consistent performance this BBL with quality leg spin! No wonder Steve Waugh wants him to be considered..."
turns it away to deep backward square leg for a brace
harmless half-volley on the stumps, slower in pace but he picks it up early and whacks it over wide long-on. Lofts it well and clean over the boundary. Went high and gets good distance on it as well
swipes across the line to this straight ball and makes no contact. The ball misses the stumps and the bowler reacts with a wry smile
length ball outside off, drags it from outside off and swipes hard as the ball goes on the bounce over the cow corner boundary
yorker, angling in on off, squeezed out towards backward point
full ball, gets an inside edge towards square leg as he tries to drill it
drags the length back as he looks to adjust and Rohrer pulls it fine for a brace
good length outside off, strides forward and drops it in front of cover
back of a length, jumps back and turns it away into the midwicket region
bouncer, Rohrer makes no contact on the hook and it is too high, so called a wide
short of a length, turned away to deep backward square leg
short of a length ball, pulled to deep midwicket
Dwarshuis comes on with 26 needed off 12 overs. Can he he just upset their momentum with a wicket or two?
fuller ball, sprayed down the leg side and makes good contact on the glance and the ball goes away to the fine leg fence
length ball, tries to flick it away but does so early and wears it on the pad. Pitching outside leg and would have missed leg stump as well
short ball, keeps the pull down to deep midwicket and the fielder at deep backward square leg runs across and picks it up
short of a length outside off, shuffles across and pushes off the backfoot to extra cover. Sends the non-striker back as he was looking for a single
good length outside off, gets a good stride forward and punches it out to sweeper cover
short of a length, pitching outside leg, tucked off the pads to deep midwicket
tucked behind square
