a stylish way to finish things off, Auckland get their first win in the CLT20, and the big win will also boost their net run rate, the game ended when Kitchen launched a length ball cleanly over wide long-on, the ball lands in the stands, Kitchen pumps his fist in joy, Auckland are cock-a-hoop
S Stallions vs Auckland, Qualifying Pool 1 at Johannesburg, Oct 09 2012 - Match Result
Auckland won by 6 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)
de Grandhomme has broken the record for most ducks (4) in T20s for AUCK, going past Colin Munro's 3
Not the most memorable of debuts for Sialkot. Their top order really struggled to get going against Auckland's new-ball bowlers, who got the ball to nip around and bounce as well. Shahihd Yusuf's cameo helped them reach 130, an underwhelming score, but at least something for the bowler to try their luck with. It wasn't enough though, as each of Auckland's top four made at least 20, and ensured they got home with plenty to spare.
I like this one from Oliver: "He swept Raza Hasan for six? Well swept Kitchen."
Shoaib Malik: "I think we were one bowler short. Conditions were tough, the way our batters batted, I think 130 was a very good total. we are very excited, great opportunity for all of us. I think we could have bowled well."
Gareth Hopkins: "It's our first win overseas. We looked at it, we've been in the winter, we spent two weeks here, it helped us not just with the altitude, but with the conditions."
Man of the Match is Kyle Mills: "I've been in good rhythm over the last few months, good conditions to bowl here. I didn't wake up in the bowler expecting to do something like that (most economical figures in CLT20). I was mindful of just bowling on off stump and seeing what the wicket could do for me."
Njr1330: "what about a batting line-up of Cook, Mustard, Onions, (Cec) Pepper, Lamb, Rice, Wiener, Pringles (Derek & Meyrick), Woodcock and Kitchen!" Good effort, though you might want to bat Onions a little lower in the order.
Right, day one of the qualifiers are done and dusted. Yorkshire and Auckland have won, Uva and Sialkot have lost. Day two tomorrow. Join us then. Thanks for all the puns. G'night!
Hassaan Yasin: "Don't want to see Kitchen left in a mess :)"
reverse-sweep again, this time towards sweeper cover, not timed too well though he gave it a real thrash, the scores are level now
the reverse-sweep from Munro, powerfully hit behind point for four, and three to go now
six, length ball is swept by Kitchen, not with too much power, but it still clears the rope at deep square leg, it also clears the Auckland dug-out as the players they scrambled to get out of the way of that shot
length ball on the pads, defended to the leg side
Nusrat: "This is lovely.... Grandhome is out but Kitchen is still there...."
crisply hit there, length ball is launched towards the man at long-on, thought for a second that he could take that but it is too high and lands beyond the boundary, Auckland 14 away now
short of length and just outside off, the bounce beats the batsman
Rishabh Bablani: "Isn't Kitchen's best friend Alastair Cook?"
skips down the track, another Twenty20 shot, a flat-batted ugly slap past the bowler
length ball on off stump, defended off the front foot to the off side
short of length ball rears up outside off, batsman is pinned on the back foot, opens the face to send it towards point
length ball outside off, a good-looking drive off the front foot, misfielded at short extra cover
Sharj gets things going: "If you can't handle the heat, get out the Kitchen."
slapped towards cover for a single
short ball that Kitchen looks to club over the leg side, instead gets a top edge and that sails away for a one-bounce four to the third man boundary, typical T20 shot
Kitchen charges down the track and gives himself room, lashes that one behind point for a boundary that releases the bit of pressure that was building up on Auckland
length ball on the pads, can't get bat on it it but it is off the pads behind square leg
looking for a strange shot there, the ball was very close to his body outside off, looking to pull that towards square leg
A wide slip in place, in the 15th over
length ball outside off, guided down to third man for a single
no longer as straightforward for Auckland, a terrific ball that rears up, finally gets the outside edge, de Grandhomme was beaten the first two deliveries, the third time he nicks it through, and Auckland are 97 for 4, still Auckland ahead but it isn't the cruise it seemed it would be
