short, and the India captain ends it at his home ground with a powerful pull to the deep square leg boundary
Over to the north for the last two games, in Mohali and Dharamsala. Abhishek Purohit signing off. Cheers
Virat Kohli is the Man of the Match. Kohli: "I was batting well for a while, getting out in different ways, got a few good balls, made a few mistakes. Today I just reacted to the way the ball was thrown at me. I did not have to pre-plan which I was doing in the previous games. I was relying on my reflexes. It was a difficult wicket, Finn gets the ball to seam on any wicket. Crowd support was brilliant."
Dhoni: "Bowlers did the job for us. It was important to take wickets with the new ball. 150-odd was not enough to defend for the English side. Gautam batted well with Virat, that was important as the ball was doing something. Most of the bowlers are new. Bhuvi and Shami have just got into the side. They will get a lot of confidence out of this. [When asked if he was nervous as he walked out to bat] Not really, I have played a lot of cricket here. Yuvi got out, so I got an opportunity to bat, at one stage it did not look if I would get to bat. I cannot say it was good that I got to bat, they will beat me in the dressing room. It is one of the best facilities. Execution is very important. Response from the people has been amazing. Everything went off well, we won the game, it was a perfect script."
Cook: "150 was nowhere near enough on that wicket. Credit to India. Not really going to defend that, unless it is a freak day. We did not get out to attacking shots, got out to defensive shots. It is frustrating, We have the potential, but we are not clicking at the moment. The ball skid on slightly better in the second innings, we knew that would happen."
Alan Gardner's match report is already updated here.
So Dhoni has the satisfaction of hitting the winning runs in Ranchi's debut international game. More satisfying for the side will be Virat Kohli's return to his habit of winning chases for India. India's bowlers, a much-maligned lot, will be pleased to have done most of the groundwork for victory. Where do England go from here? Up north to Mohali, with a series to be saved there, and having now lost 18 of their previous 21 ODIs in India.
Sridhar: "Any one willing to treat me!!! My prediction of Dhoni scoring the winning runs came true"

Chants of 'Dhoni, Dhoni' around the ground
keeps strike with a tuck to deep square leg, Tredwell denying him the chance to charge out
flat and quick it is once more, steered to short third
pushing it through quick again, Dhoni has to stay back and chops it away
down the track, Tredwell shortens it, nudged to midwicket
mistimes it off the back foot to covers
worked with the turn to midwicket
Dhoni has a change of bats, and no cap on
worked to midwicket
top edge of a pull, but well short of fine leg
my goodness, Dhoni has given this length ball such a fearful thump from the crease, that even after clattering into the non-striker's stumps, it has enough steam to lure mid off all the way to the straight boundary
very well controlled by Kohli, short ball dug into him, he swivels across on a leg and it needs a dive from fine leg to save the pull from flying into the boundary
across, behind the line, and defending a good length ball
short of a length into the pads, and tucked wide of fine leg for two
moves across again and works it to square leg
that spun in a mile, Dhoni getting across and outside off, and hit on the pad
on the front foot and works it to midwicket
And the camera pans to MS Dhoni who picks up his gloves in the dressing room to start his walk out to the middle in his hometown, which has raised the decibel levels considerably. Captain wearing a cap, to face his first ball, after getting a standing ovation from Ranchi
Yuvraj falling to spin, not for the last time, pushing forward inside the line, and off stump is knocked back as Tredwell straightens it from round the stumps
down the track, Tredwell shortens the length, Kohli works it to deep square
punched to extra cover
another boundary, surely Dernbach's place has to be questioned now, harmless short ball, not getting up much, and Yuvraj sends it through square leg with a quick swivel on a leg
