Tuskers, Eagles forge big wins
A round-up of the Logan Cup 2014-15 matches that ended on November 27, 2014
Sean Williams' all-round efforts, 96 with the bat and 4 for 19 in the second innings, helped set up an innings and 95-run win for Matabeleland Tuskers against Mid West Rhinos.
Williams' 96 was one of the pillars of Tuskers' formidable first-innings score of 461 for 9, alongside another 96 from opener Bornaparte Mujuru and a 99 from Brian Chari, the third Tuskers batsman to miss out on a century. Their knocks along with an unbeaten 57 from Tawanda Mupariwa helped the side take a 206-run lead after their bowlers had dismissed Rhinos for 255 in the first innings.
Rhinos' first-innings score was propped up by half-centuries from Prince Masvaure (77) and Mark Mbofana (54*), but there was barely any resistance in the second as the side was dismissed for 111. Early strikes by Brian Vitori reduced them to 19 for 3 before Williams chipped in with four wickets. Nyasha Mayavo's 54 was the best effort by a Rhinos batsman in an innings where the next best score off the bat was 12.
Pacers Tafadzwa Muzarawetu and Tatenda Gumunyu-Manatsa played key roles in Mashonaland Eagles' 336-run win over Mountaineers.
Muzarawetu finished with a match haul of eight wickets while Gumunyu-Manatsa took seven as Mountaineers were restricted to totals of 261 and 115. Their efforts helped Eagles take a 140-run lead, after the team had scored 401 runs in the first innings, built around Ryan Burl's 92 and Tinotenda Mutombodzi's 80. Tatenda Mupunga and Cuthbert Musoko were the best bowlers for Mountaineers with four wickets each.
Burl and Mutumbodzi chipped in with fifties in the second innings, too, as Eagles extended their formidable lead. Cephas Zhuwao also contributed to the team's cause with 75 and the side's declaration at 311 for 8 set Mountaineers a target of 452. Tino Mawoyo's 29 was the top score in the innings as Mountaineers were bowled out within 30 overs.
