Somerset are through, Rusty squeezes one more full delivery behind point
Somerset vs Warriors, Group B at Bengaluru, Oct 05 2011 - Ball by Ball Commentary
The last semi-final spot remains to be decided. Hop over to the other match where the toss happens in ten minutes. This is Abhishek Purohit signing off along with Sajan Nair. Cheers
Alfonso Thomas is the Man of the Match. Thomas: "Speechless really. Fantastic effort, after I saw Trego get out the way he did. We thought 155 was par for the ground and would have been good enough. We knew we would have to go well upfront which we did. When I had two overs left and Kirby had one left, I thought if we kept it good, we could make it. Hopefully we have picked up a few more fans along the way."
Johan Botha: "Kieswetter played well in the first six overs. We pulled them back after that but Kieswetter batted through and showed his international experience to set up a big score for them. We knew it was going to be tough to chase, it was playing slow. The rate got a bit out of hand in the end."
No one gave Somerset a chance, they worked their way through qualifying, and they have now made the semi-finals, They have handled spin, they have given it back with spin, with slower ones, with Peter Trego and RVDM.
What's more the Warrior's NRR has gone below RCB's so even the back door has shut, rather firmly
Stephen: "How come its choking when South African teams do it, but if its teams from England or India its bad luck or something." They needed 68 off 52 with nine wickets in hand, it happens a bit too regularly with them, that's why
RVDM: "We came in as underdogs and now we are in the last four. Captain asked me to bowl the last over, I am always happy to do it, I knew the Warriors would come at me in the middle overs, but I backed myself."
Rusty gets one off the middle of the bat, it flies over long on but Warriors' chances flew away some time back
nothing happening for Warriors, he backs away and has a go, cannot connect
another one full and on the stumps, dug out to the bowler, that's about it then
RVDM hits timber, RVDM roars, full on the stumps, batsman misses with the slog, leg stump is rattled, Warriors have already been
fires it full across Boje, inside edge fine on the leg side as he mistimes the slog
Craig: "Why don't South African teams appoint a coach that knows the heimlich maneuver?"
21 needed, RVDM has the ball
can't do anything with it, Thomas has been superb, fires it in on the pads as Boje backs away, scoots away behind point, only the leg-bye
Suppiah takes another one, Somerset converge on him, Parnell had to go for it, he had to, but ended up scooping it towards deep midwicket where Suppiah took a fine running catch
116 kph slower ball, the entire range on display from thomas, Parnell has a swing, and a miss
tries to drive with the angle from round the stumps, inside edge towards the keeper
Kartik holds on at deep midwicket, about an inch from the ground, it was another short ball from thomas, a touch slower, and Thyssen top=-edged the eager pull in the air, Kartik was right under it, but it almost popped out in the end, but he managed to hold on as he went low
down the track looking for the big swing down the ground, Thomas bangs it in and it goes above the bat
he ends with the slower one, Boje tries to get low and swing it through square leg, misses and is hit on the body, Thyssen comes charging for the run, Kirby had already got to the ball but did not have a go at the non-striker's stumps
over-followed him, he had gone miles outside leg stump, Kirby tried to cramp him for room, but ended up firing it even further down leg
shortish delivery at normal pace, pulled to long leg, single taken
long on had set himself for the catch, but that ball has cleared him comfortably, Thyssen gets under the full delivery and drags it high over long on
ajay: "For the warriors to win they need a 'steyn over' now."
there is no one at extra cover, Boje backs away to a slower and fuller one on the stumps, and pushes in the air in that region
whack! that will help, width given, Boje latches on to it, just gets front leg out of the way and creams it over extra cover
Kirby keeps it full on the stumps, he cannot get much bat under it and the lofted shot falls well short of long on
hit towards sweeper cover for a single, it is getting tougher and tougher for Warriors
