comes down again and finishes it in style, he lofts it from outside off over mid-off for four and South Africa win by nine wickets
Zimbabwe vs South Africa, Only Test at Harare, Aug 09 2014 - Ball by Ball Commentary
5.08pm It's the end of the only Test here at Harare which South Africa have taken by nine wickets. We'll now head to Bulawayo for three ODIs between these two teams starting August 17. Until then, it's goodbye from Vishal Dikshit as I sign-off. Ciao!
Time for the presentation:
Brendan Taylor: We certainly tried to compete, it was challenging not getting enough cricket but no excuses there. We were competitive for three days and were blown away after lunch today. The wicket was slow and I don't think we were sharp enough. They made it difficult for us which you expect from them. We did fight hard, soft dismissals from us including mine and we'll learn from them. A lot of positives for us. Nyumbu has been in first-class for a number of years, full credit to him and he got a lot of support from our pacers and that made my job easier.
Dane Piedt is the Man of the Match: We did a couple of days at the national academy so a lot of preparation was done in Sri Lanka. It was really good and lot of things are yet to be done, I had to be patient on this surface. I learn everyday from my team-mates in the nets and the last month and a half has been amazing for me. Really happy with the performance to get the win.
Hashim Amla: Credit to Zimbabwe for playing good credit and I'm proud of my team. You have to encounter different wickets and they made a wicket that probably suited them more than us. Special mention to our batters for digging deep and getting that crucial lead. The ball was turning and they played really well. Piedt bowled exceptionally well, he stuck to his job and the pitch assisted him too. Hope he continues to grow. You don't take any game for cricket, Test cricket is always tough and happy to get some wins under our belt. ODIs are a build up to the World Cup and everyone is excited for that.

Allan Donald: I haven't seen a pitch like this at HSC for…forever. Credit to the groundsmen for taking the pace off it. I think we coped very well, we hung in there and hardly let the run rate go over three. It's a great attribute that Dale and Morne can swing the old ball too and credit to out three pacers for being outstanding. Morne always flies below the radar, he's the big donkey of the team, he does terrific work. He does so much work behind the scenes.
AB de Villiers: Very satisfied with the win, we played well through the day. Test cricket is all about playing well away from home. Personally not a great game for me I'd have liked to score more. Zimbabwe are always competitive in ODIs and it's important to do well away from home in that format too.
Sean Williams: Pretty good game for us, considering we haven't played Tests in so long. We would have liked to take it to the fifth day and setting a target of 150-200. It was a tough wicket to bat on and it was a survival mode today but ended up not working for us.
4.37pm South Africa won, as expceted, but a lot of positives to take for Zimbabwe. They resisted with a lot of grit for three days. Once they opted to bat, they were taken past 250 with Taylor's 93. Their bowlers, led by debutant Nyumbu, were very discplined, including Chatara and Panyangara but it was hard to not let SA take a lead. Fifties from Elgar, du Plessis, de Kock and Duminy got them close to 400 after Nyumbu's five-for and one session took the game towards SA on the fourth day.
length delivery around off, presses forward to block
comes down the track and it's pitched towards his legs, pushed down to mid-on
pitched up and Faf defends it back
slightly fuller and drives it wide of mid-on to get off the mark
good bounce on that occasion as he pitches it outside off, du Plessis lets it go
drags it on! Two runs to go and Elgar has fallen. It was outside off and going away further, Elgar didn't move his feet and chopped it on with an inside edge
good-length ball and it's pushed to backward point
does it go all the way, fall short! It was pitched up a bit and Elgar lofted it to the long-on boundary for a one-bounce four
full on off, thickish edge goes to backward point
Only six required now
short and put away! Petersen had enough time to go back and he pulled it against the turn to the area between long-on and deep midwicket for four
straighter delivery now and it's defended back
outside leg this time and he goes to the back foot to help it to short leg
turns it by pitching it shorter and Petersen goes back to defend it
leans forward and blocks this outside off
flighted outside off, tucked to the leg side for one
Sean Williams from the other end
on length and coming in a bit, he defends it back carefully
short and slightly wide, can't get it away past short cover
comes down the wicket to swish at it outside off, but the ball moves away from him after pitching short of length
on length and outside off, left alone this time
