Big hitter: Andrew Symonds scored 50 • AFP
Andrew Symonds proved a good ally, initially playing second fiddle to Herschelle Gibbs - at one stage he was 3 off 17 balls and then soared to 50 - and then followed up with wickets as Deccan Chargers beat Chennai Super Kings.
Symonds had been especially bogged down after failing to score off Muttiah Muralitharan, R Ashwin and Justin Kemp, who in 16 balls allowed him just three singles, but in Balaji's second over he carved a six and four off consecutive deliveries to rocket to 14 from 20 balls. Morkel was welcomed back into the attack with a glance to fine leg, and Murali's final over included a six and three consecutive wides to push Deccan's run rate at a time when they were going after everything.
Symonds then struck in his first over of seam-up stuff by bowling the dangerous MS Dhoni for a 29-ball 42, and finished with 2 for 29.
