Dinesh Mongia could be drafted into the Indian squad for the NatWest Challenge against England if Sachin Tendulkar fails a fitness test at Trent Bridge tomorrow. Both Tendulkar, who was ruled out of the Videocon Cup with tennis elbow, and Ajit Agarkar will undergo tests, according to a report in The Khaleej Times.

Mongia has produced some sterling performances with the bat since being called up by Lancashire, and his ability to bowl left-arm spin makes him an interesting option should Tendulkar be ruled out. The report suggested that even if Tendulkar was to miss the three matches against England (September 1, 3 and 5), he would certainly recover in time for the Champions Trophy, which starts on September 10.
