Gloucestershire chased down 334 against Middlesex in a thrilling match which went to the final over at Southgate. Craig Spearman's century set the platform, and he shared two century stands - one with Phil Weston for the first wicket and one with Matt Windows, which was worth 166. There was still much work to do, but Windows took over the mantle and his 87 ensured victory. Middlesex had the first chance to make the most of a flat Southgate pitch - and duly piled up 333 for 4. Four of the top five batsmen hit half-centuries, while Scott Styris just missed out: he made 42. Ed Smith and Paul Weekes set the platform with an opening stand of 109, before Jamie Dalrymple pitched in with some firecracking heroics late on - he smashed 60 from just 24 balls, including seven fours and four sixes. Jon Lewis returned the woeful figures of 0 for 86 from 9 overs.
After their thrilling run-chase in the C&G quarter-final against Surrey, this time it was Hampshire's turn to be hunted down. Stephen Fleming proved once again how valuable he is to Nottinghamshire by leading their successful run chase with an unbeaten century at Trent Bridge. Dmitri Mascarenhas topscored with 50 for the visitors and put on 83 with Sean Ervine to lift Hampshire from, 152 for 6 to their total of 244 for 8 and Shane Watson was again on-song, before being run out on 46. But it wasn't enough, as Notts scraped home by one wicket.
Glamorgan defeated Worcestershire in a close-fought game at New Road. The home side's top order delivered the goods against Glamorgan at New Road, posting 273 for 3. Stephen Moore struck 104, both Vikram Solanki and Zander de Bruyn made half-centuries and Graeme Hick made 42. Sourav Ganguly managed to claw back some respectability for his side, with five overs, 1 for 9, but such economical figures were scarce in Glamorgan's attack. Yet the total was still not enough in the face of Ganguly's batting onslaught - he posted 53 from 48 balls with five fours and two sixes. Mike Powell turned the game, striking 82 from 90 balls.
Dale Benkenstein made 90 of Durham's paltry 147 as they slid to an inevitable defeat against Warwickshire at Chester-le-Street. The visitors reached their target for the loss of five wickets with more than ten overs to spare. Things could have been worse for Durham - they were 49 for 8 at one stage - but Liam Plunkett (10) and Neil Killeen (8*) held on well at the end to help add another 98 runs for the last two wickets. The ever-impressive Heath Streak did the damage, taking 3 for 13. Alex Loudon made 51 and Jim Troughton 36 in a thoroughly one-sided victory.
Derbyshire defeated Surrey by five wickets in a comfortable win. Stephen Stubbings and Michael di Venuto each struck 98 - and each fell victim to Mohammad Akram - to tee up the win with an opening stand of 217 on a typically flat Oval pitch. Derbyshire lost four more quick wickets in the inevitable last-minute rush for runs, chasing 263 for victory - but the result wasn't in doubt. James Benning, Mark Ramprakash and Graham Thorpe all hit the forties for Surrey, but were unable to go on from there.
