Almost unknown outside local cricket in Canada, Gocool played club cricket in Toronto as well as fulfilling unspecified roles with the board.

In a brief statement he said: "Together we can develop a synergy that can move the sport forward for the betterment of the game and for the enjoyment and satisfaction of all those who participate."

Interim president Ranjit Saini added: "It is time to build on all our successes and ensure that the sport in the country is strong and Cricket Canada is a vibrant and viable organization. Chandra's task will not be a small one but we have full confidence in him to lead the organization to new heights."

Gocool takes charge at a time the national team is enjoying a resurgence but he also inherits a board which has suffered in recent years from infighting.
