The first elections under the new provincial set-up in Zimbabwe took place on Thursday, with Zimbabwe Cricket interim board member, Cyprian Mandenge, assuming the chairmanship of the Harare Metropolitan Province, which was formed out of the ashes of the old Mashonaland Cricket Association.
Mandenge leads a board comprising vice-chairman Tendai Kuhlengisa, Kudakwashe Chimuti, Elisha Kandi, Levy Hombarume and Taurai Mapfunde.
The other nine new provinces were expected to hold their own elections by the end of Friday to pave the way for the ZC elections before the August 31 deadline. This year ZC abolished traditional provinces and formed ten smaller ones. The ZC elections will be held under a new constitution which empowers government to handpick seven of the board's 12 directors.
