208 Hashim Amla's score in this innings, which is the highest by a South Africa captain at home in Tests, beating Graeme Smith's 183 against England in Cape Town in 2010. This is also the highest individual score at the venue and only the second double-century here after Jacques Kallis' unbeaten 201 against India in 2010.
9 Number of times AB de Villiers has scored 150 or more in Tests - he had got to a hundred 20 times. His conversion rate of 45% is the seventh highest among the 41 batsmen who have scored 20 or more Test centuries. Don Bradman leads this list with a conversion rate of 62%, followed by Virender Sehwag at 61%.
5 Number of South Africa batsmen who have hit a century on debut, including Stiaan Van Zyl in this match. The last batsman to achieve this was Faf du Plessis, who scored an unbeaten 110 in the famous draw in Adelaide in 2012. Van Zyl, however, is the first South Africa batsman to achieve this playing at home.
11 Number of 300-plus partnerships put on by South Africa batsmen since their readmission to Test cricket, including the one between Amla and de Villiers in this match. This is the most such partnerships put on by any team in this period. Australia are second on this list, with ten 300-plus partnerships.
308 Runs added by Amla and de Villiers for the fourth wicket, which is now South Africa's highest partnership against West Indies. Their previous highest against West Indies also came at the same venue, when Herschelle Gibbs and Smith added 301 runs for the opening wicket in 2004.
495 Runs added by South Africa's fourth, fifth and sixth wickets, which is the highest added by the three wickets in an innings in Tests for South Africa. Their previous highest for these three wickets was the 359 runs added against Pakistan in Dubai last year.
552 South Africa's total in this innings - it was only the second time they have managed to score 550-plus after being three wickets down for less than 100. The highest total managed by South Africa in such a case is the 584 they scored against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2010-11. On that occasion, they were three wickets down for 33. Overall, the highest total achieved by a team in such instances is New Zealand's 680 against India in Wellington earlier this year.
0 Number of times, before this South African innings, that a team had recovered to post a score of 500-plus after losing their top three wickets on the same score. The previous highest was also by South Africa - 481 in their second innings of a Test against New Zealand in 1939. On that occasion though, South Africa were better placed, on 191, when the three wickets fell in a heap.
