Hopes and Hartley star for Queensland Academy

An unbroken 134-run stand of the fifth wicket between James Hopes (88 not out) and Chris Hartley (60 not out) took Queensland Academy of Sports to a convincing six-wicket win against an Australian Indiginous team at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane. Asked to chase 213 in 50 overs, QAS reached the target losing just four wickets, with more than 14 overs to spare, thus continuing their dominance over Australian Indiginous, whom they had earlier beaten by 170 runs in a three-day match.

After opting to bat, Australia Indiginous got off to a solid start, posting their hundred for the loss of just one wicket. However, things started going downhill for them soon after - Daniel Payne was dismissed after making 50, and the rest of the middle order failed to fire as they slumped to 140 for 6. Some lower-order resistance lifted them to 212, but it was woefully inadequate against a strong QAS batting side.

The Indiginous side did have some early success in the field, though, when QAS lost four early wickets to be reduced to 80 for 4. Among the casualties was Craig Philipson, who had blasted an unbeaten 146 off just 81 balls in the three-day match. He made just 27 this time, but QAS found their saviours in Hopes and Hartley, both of whom scored at a run-a-ball, ensuring that victory was achieved with plenty to spare.
