ICA mourns the passing of Raymond Abrahams

The Israel Cricket Association regrets to announce that Raymond Abrahams, stalwart of Israeli cricket, passed away on Thursday last week.
Raymond, recently into his eighties, was a legend in Israeli cricket. Ben Abrahams and his seven sons, including Raymond, arrived in Israel from India in 1961 and started the side in Be'er Sheva. Always attired to perfection, Raymond bowled his gentle off cutters for the National team in the sixties and seventies. He represented Be'er Sheva throughout his career aside for a two year stint with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a member of the 1981 team that won the league title. His best spell of bowling was undoubtedly the 9 for 23 against Petach Tikva in 1980 in Jerusalem. Backed up by a superb fielding side he topped the bowling averages that year.
As his career came to an end Raymond took up umpiring and became a senior member of the Israel Umpires Association. In addition Raymond helped with the coaching of the youth in Be'er Sheva.
The ICA expresses its sincerest condolences to the Abrahams family throughout Israel.
