West Indies will climb to fourth in the ICC One-Day International Championship table if it can maintain its winning form in the three match home ODI Series against Sri Lanka starting in Barbados on Saturday 7th June.
West Indies came back from 4-0 down in the recent Cable and Wireless ODI series with Australia to win the last three matches. Though the series was already lost, the hat-trick of victories against the World Champions has significantly boosted West Indies' rating from 99 at the start of the series to 104.
This lifted Brian Lara's team level with India and only two points behind Sri Lanka's current rating of 106.
It means that if West Indies wins the series 3-0 its rating will rise to 107 while Sri Lanka's rating will fall to 104, leaving Marvan Atapattu's team ahead of India in fifth place only by virtue of matches played.
On the other hand, if Sri Lanka wins the series 3-0 its rating will increase to 108 - only two below third-placed Pakistan - and West Indies will drop back to seventh place with 101, below New Zealand on matches played.
Sri Lanka will hold on to fourth place if the series finishes 2-1 either way but a 2-1 victory margin for West Indies will be enough for the home side to move ahead of India into fifth place.

How the ICC ODI table works:
The formula used by the ICC to determine team Ranking positions takes into account the following factors:
- results from all ODI matches played over the previous two to three years
- strength of opposition, with greater reward for beating higher ranked opponents
- greater importance is placed on more recent results, with older matches dropped every 12 months
- all matches have equal status, with no account taken of venue or margin of victory
The match points awarded are then divided by the number of matches played in the valid period to produce a rating.
