Two of Pakistan's finest cricketers, Imran Khan and Wasim Akram, have criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board for their decision to hold a medical commission after the spate of injuries during their recent series against India.
"The PCB has made a mockery of Pakistan cricket," said Imran, after Shoaib Akhtar and four other players were called before the commission. Wasim was equally unconvinced of its benefits, saying it was carried out "simply because India was a better team and they beat Pakistan".
"The medical inquiry was a big mishap," added Wasim. "Nobody knows where the report is and what the aim of the inquiry was.We should have avoided it. I think the captain, coach and the manager should handle a player and it should not happen like this."
Shoaib had been accused of faking an injury during the crucial third Test at Rawalpindi, but was eventually cleared by the commission after a bone scan demonstrated that he was in fact telling the truth. "No player can imagine faking an injury," said Shoaib, as he prepared to join up with his county team-mates in Durham. "I always take pride in playing for Pakistan."
