ICC Media Release
24-Mar-2004
India's win in the final match of its five-match One-Day International (ODI) series in Pakistan earned it a 3-2 series victory and propelled it above Pakistan in the ICC ODI Championship table.
Going into the series Pakistan was fifth in the official ODI table with a rating of 107 while India was seventh on 105. The narrow series win is just enough to lift India above its great rival into fifth position with a new rating of 107.
Pakistan's rating has fallen to 106 putting it sixth, narrowly ahead of England when the ratings are recalculated to three decimal places.
This will be the first time that India has finished a calendar month ahead of Pakistan in the ICC ODI Championship table since October 2003.
Only three points separate the sides ranked between third and seventh in the official ODI table. England and Sri Lanka are the next two of these sides to have an opportunity to pull away from the pack with away series against West Indies and Zimbabwe respectively.
