The Indians showed more fight, but there was an air of inevitability about the result as Australia's overall strength - with Ponting back after a hamstring injury, replacing the unfortunate Haddin - helped them prevail once more. They began solidly then built on Symonds's 67-ball 89, which contained as many sixes as fours (five of each), to post a total that always looked beyond India. By now the match referee had silenced the annoying on-field chatter, but India were powerless to halt Symonds's charge. He controlled the tempo to perfection, hitting Australia out of trouble every time they appeared vulnerable, and even a withering assault from Yuvraj Singh could not save India from another comfortable defeat. Yuvraj, every bit as brutal as Symonds and often more pleasing to the eye, ploughed a lone furrow for 121 off 115 balls. Australia's fast bowlers, Lee and Johnson, were proving to be a menace at the top of the order but, almost unnoticed, the unorthodox slow left-armer Hogg was growing to be the real threat.
