Israel cricket mourns the passing of Benzie Kehimkar

Benzie Kehimkar, former Israel international, stalwart of the Neve Yonatan team and international umpire, passed away suddenly yesterday evening, aged 42, to the deep sadness and great shock of the Israel cricket community. Benzie is mourned by his wife and children.

Excerpt from eulogy delivered at Benzie's funeral by ICA Chairman Stanley Perlman:

Thirty years ago I first played against Benzie in the parking lot of the cemetry where we are gathered today to say farewell to a lovely man.

Benzie was a positive person who always saw the better side of things. He would always try and be constructive. He toured with me on many occasions overseas and never had a bad word to say about anyone. When things would get rough when the results were not as good as they should have been he would always try and look on the bright side.

He had a wonderful sense of humour and in his quiet manner made many friends both on and off the field. After matches he would be seen mingling with the opposition telling them all the positive things about Israel.

We are all very sad that Benzie has been taken from us at such a young age. To his wife Regina, his two dughters and two sons - I want you to know that we feel very much for you all at this tragic time in your lives.

Just one week from today Benzie was to have fulfilled a dream. He was due to leave for Spain next week to umpire at the European U15 Championships. Tragically for everybody Benzie won't be there.
